Indian origin man dies after being punched at motel in Oklahoma City, one arrested

An Indian origin man died tragically after being punched during a confrontation at a motel in Oklahoma City Saturday, June 22. As per police, officers received a call at around 10 pm, asking them to come to a motel parking lot near Interstate 40 and Meridian Avenue.

The incident involved 59-year-old Hemant Mistry, the motel manager and a 41-year-old Richard Lewis. Things got heated after Mistry asked the man to leave the premises. The suspect reportedly punched Mistry, knocking him out cold.

“One person was knocked unconscious during a physical confrontation,” Msgt. Dillon Quirk with the Oklahoma City Police Department said, as quoted by KOCO 5 News. “It got confrontational when that suspect was asked to leave.”

A video of the confrontation has surfaced online. It shows the two having a spat before Lewis punches Mistry in the face. The impact was left the victim out cold. A woman was seen rushing towards Mistry as the video ended.

Mistry was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at 7:40 pm Sunday, June 23. The suspect was identified, located on a different property and arrested.

As per the news outlet, no formal charges have been pressed against Lewis. “He was initially booked on complaints of aggravated assault, but that is expected to be upgraded to second-degree murder,” the report read.
