A new nonprofit of, for, and by Indian-origin engineers ‘Indian Engineers Without Borders’ (IEWB) was launched by Indian Professional Without Borders, a global organization for professionals of Indian origin, on February 10 in California.
The Silicon Valley-based organization said it aims to build a culture of collaboration and innovation between engineers of Indian origin worldwide. India’s Consul General in San Francisco Dr K. Srikar Reddy was the chief guest while Dr. Shailendra Joshi, former chief secretary and advisor to the Government of Telangana, India, was the keynote speaker.
In his address, Dr. Reddy emphasized the critical role of AI or artificial intelligence, referencing a recent International Monetary Fund (IMF) report indicating AI’s transformative impact on the global economy and India’s projected 8% annual growth.
He highlighted the strategic collaboration between the US and Indian governments in establishing a task force and a joint research institute focused on education and the advancement of critical and emerging technologies.
Dr. Joshi spoke about the pros and cons of AI opportunities. He emphasized that AI will bring new technologies to deal with challenges in healthcare, climate and other burning issues. He praised all the participants who joined from different parts of the world.
IEWB co-founder Shachindra Nath said, “We are committed to uniting Indian engineers and like-minded individuals worldwide. Our goal is to leverage engineering as a powerful tool to address global challenges, improve the quality of life, and drive forward with innovation that has a lasting impact.”
Amit Sarkar, one of the planners of this global initiative, spoke about the creation of an AI learning ecosystem and the launch of 50,000 AI-focused startup accelerators, “signifying a monumental leap towards fostering the top 10% of AI talent globally.”
IEWB has 1100 members and eight chapters spanning four continents, the organizers said. “We have embarked on a mission to harness the collective genius of Indian engineers and tech enthusiasts to address global challenges, improve quality of life, and drive sustainable innovation.”
IEWB inaugurated the ‘101 Days of AI Learning Festival’, a program that offers “comprehensive insights into AI and machine learning, and aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s advocacy for leveraging AI in agriculture, healthcare, and education, as stated at the GPAI Summit 2023.”
