Indian-origin student sentenced to 12 years for enticing 13-year-old girl to have sex with him

iNDICA NEWS BUREAU-

A student of Indian origin has been arrested and sentenced to 12 years in jail for trying to convince a 13-year-old girl to engage in illegal sexual acts with him. The 32-year-old Telugu student is in the United States on a student Visa.

From September 20, 2022, to October 6, 2022, he had texted a detective posing as a 13-year-old girl, on social media. In their chats, the accused often tried to pressure the minor girl to engage in a sexual relationship with him. After repeatedly asked to meet her, the “girl” agreed and the meeting was scheduled to take place in a park in Millcreek Township in Erie County, Pennsylvania.

When the accused, Upendra Aduru, arrived in the park, he was arrested after he realized that the girl he was chatting with was an undercover detective. A search of Aduru’s phone revealed the social media communications between him and the undercover detective, said the United States Attorney’s Office.

This investigation was carried out as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing instances of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Upon investigating the case and checking the accused’s conversations with the undercover agent on social media, a federal court sentenced him to a 12-year jail term and 10 years of supervised release for attempting to entice a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity.
