Indian-origin technology executive Arvind Krishna is the new CEO of the American IT giant IBM. Krishna has succeeded Virginia Rometty. Rometty who is 62 years old will retire from the company after spending almost 40 years with the company. Krishna was earlier the Senior Vice President for Cloud and Cognitive Software at IBM.
In his first email as the CEO of IBM, Krishna said: “If there’s one thing that this public health crisis has brought to light it is the ever essential role of IBM in the world. We are the backbone of some of the most critical systems, today, more than ever, trust is our license to operate.”
Krishna is 57 years of age and had joined IBM in 1990. He holds an undergraduate degree from the IIT, Kanpur. He has a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois.
Indian-origin executives now hold key positions in some of the biggest multinational companies such as Microsoft, Google, MasterCard and Adobe.
Krishna’s profile on the IBM website says that he is the recipient of IITK and the University of Illinois. Krishna has been editor of some of the prestigious journals such as IEEE and ACM.
