Indian student dies in US after 3-month battle with car crash injuries

iNDICA NEWS BUREAU –

Rohith Reddy Bandi, a 26-year-old Indian graduate student from Telangana, India, passed away on July 24, in Texas after a prolonged struggle with severe injuries sustained in a car accident three months earlier.

Bandi, who was serving as a graduate teaching assistant at the University of North Texas, was involved in a devastating car crash on April 13. The accident resulted in critical injuries, particularly to his brain, which ultimately proved fatal despite intensive medical intervention.

According to Bandi’s brother, Rohan, who shared details on a GoFundMe page, Rohith suffered major injuries that led to multiple brain strokes. The damage affected approximately 70 percent of his brain, including areas crucial for basic life functions. This extensive neurological trauma presented a significant challenge for medical professionals throughout Bandi’s treatment.

Following the accident, Bandi was immediately admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Dell Seton Hospital in Austin, Texas. There, he underwent major surgery and was placed on ventilator support to assist with his breathing. As his condition stabilized but remained critical, he was transferred to Select Specialty Hospital in Dallas Plano for more specialized, long-term care.

Throughout his three-month hospitalization, Bandi’s family faced mounting medical expenses. Rohan had previously appealed for financial assistance on the GoFundMe platform, citing the substantial and rapidly increasing costs of his brother’s medical care.

Bandi hailed from Gundrathimadugu Village in Kuravi Mandal, located in the Mahabubabad district of Telangana. His parents, Anil Reddy and Anitha Reddy remained in India during their son’s hospitalization due to the sudden nature of the accident and visa complications.

Rohan has confirmed that arrangements are being made to repatriate his brother’s remains to India soon after completing due formalities.
