Indian tabla legend and four-time Grammy winner Zakir Hussain was notably absent from the ‘In Memoriam’ segment at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, sparking frustration among his fans.
The ceremony, held on February 2 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, saw the Recording Academy honor musicians who passed away in the previous year, but Hussain, who died on December 15 at the age of 73 due to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, was excluded.
Hussain had made history just a year earlier by becoming the first Indian artist to win three Grammy Awards in a single edition. His omission from the tribute montage drew angry reactions on social media, with many fans expressing their disappointment and tagging the Recording Academy on X.
During the live broadcast, the Grammys honored several other notable figures, including Liam Payne, Kris Kristofferson, Cissy Houston, Tito Jackson, Joe Chambers, and others. Chris Martin, fresh off Coldplay’s India tour, performed the ‘In Memoriam’ tribute alongside guitarist Grace Bowers.
Comedian Trevor Noah hosted the 2025 Grammys, marking his fifth consecutive year as emcee.
