Kaling hosts Harris to cook masala dosa, talk Indian American experience

indica News Bureau-

US Sen. Kamala Harris, who is running for the Democratic Party’s nomination for president in next year’s election, joined actor, comedian and writer Mindy Kaling to cook masala dosa and talk about their South Asian Indian heritage as South Asians  at “the Mindy Project” star’s home in Los Angeles this past Wednesday.

In the nearly 9-minute video, Harris appeared to embrace her Indian roots — her mother is Indian and her father black –  as the pair discuss common family themes, such as their kitchen’s having many spices in coffee jars.

“Can I just tell you something? I’ve never made dosa,” Harris said in the video.

Harris and Kaling took to social media to release the video of the meeting, which featured an appearance by Kaling’s father, Avu Chokalingam, and others, and the Harris campaign routed the video on a press release.

The senator and the actor also discussed Indian cooking, their parents and the Besant Nagar neighborhood in Chennai where Harris’s mother  and Kaling’s father lived.
