  • Stay informed of all news about the Kumbh Mela, especially about health and security measures.
  • Have a travel plan, a place of stay, and a means of communicating with family members.
  • Consume safe water, preferably bottled from a reputable manufacturer, and after checking it carefully. Always carry the bottle with you.
  • Eat well-cooked hot meals.
  • Consume fruits that must be peeled, e.g., bananas, oranges, etc.
  • Consider hiring a guide or going with a tour group, especially if not familiar with the place.
  • Maintain close contact with members of your group.
  • Wear sun protection.
  • Dress appropriately for the weather.
  • Take the holy bath only at authorized places.
  • Bring a small, secure bag for all personal items that you can carry on your shoulders or back. Keep all emergency contact information in your phone and in that bag.
  • Carry essential medications and a first-aid kit in your bag.
  • Be in a spiritual mood. Avoid any controversies with anyone.
  • Follow the rules and regulations.
  • Seek permission before taking any photographs, especially of sadhus and pilgrims.
  • Carry a physical map of the area with marked key locations.
  • Use travel apps and portable Wi-Fi devices to stay connected.
  • Use biodegradable materials and be conscious of disposing of waste properly supporting eco-friendly initiatives.
  • Preserve the sanctity of the sacred sites.

The Don’ts are:

  • Do not drink unsafe water.
  • Do not consume already-cut fruits.
  • Avoid eating from strangers or at unauthorized places.
  • Avoid places where there is overcrowding and the possibility of a stampede.
  • Do not take any photographs without permission.
  • Do not carry large amounts of cash.
  • Do not carry any valuables.
  • Do not cross the permissible limit when bathing in the river.
  • Avoid being persuaded by people in risky propositions.
  • Avoid overpacking.
