Man Jit Singh, president of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment in Los Angeles, California, since January 2014 has been laid off.
Announcing the news to Sony employees February 6, Tony Vinciquerra, Sony Pictures chairman and CEO, said important structural and leadership changes were called for in the television and home entertainment businesses and this required a restructuring of models and processes in place for years.
“Our decision to rethink the way we operate these units was driven by our goals to streamline SPE’s business operations, making them nimbler and better aligned with a rapidly-evolving industry,” Vinciquerra told employees.
He thanked Singh for guiding the home entertainment business through years of unprecedented change, and in helping to build a robust networks business in India, where he once served as CEO of Sony Pictures Networks India. Singh’s efforts in India have contributed immeasurably to SPE’s current strength in that fast-growing market, Vinciquerra said.
With Singh’s exit, the international production, distribution marketing, and creative services sections will now report to Keith Le Goy.
Other changes at Sony include Andy Kaplan stepping down as president of Worldwide Networks and Sheraton Kalouria quitting as president and chief marketing officer for Sony Pictures Television.
A few months ago the company hired Hulu CEO Mike Hopkins as Sony Pictures Television chairman.
According to a report in chron.com, Le Goy has his own set of problems, having been sued for sexual harassment in 2014 by a former assistant at the studio.
Le Goy was accused by Belinda Reser in a civil lawsuit filed in August 2014 settled two years later for undisclosed terms, according to court papers.
