Modi gifts silver train model, pashmina shawls to President Biden, First Lady

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden received several gifts from India Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 22. Modi, who was visiting the U.S. gifted rare pieces of silver craftwork to the Bidens.

As per reports, one of the gifts was an antique silver hand-engraved train model. The model showed a train carriage with the tag Delhi to Delaware, Biden’s hometown.

The U.S. President also hosted Modi and PMs of Australia and Japan for the Quad meeting on January 21 at his hometown.

Reports said that the train model — made of 92.5% silver — was crafted by artisans from Maharashtra.

Traditional techniques such as engraving and repoussé were used to craft the silver piece.

Flotus received a Pashmina shawl from the Indian Prime Minister. The cloth from Jammu and Kashmir, was packed in a handmade ‘papier mâché’ box.
