Ajay Bhutoria, a prominent leader within the South Asian American community and a member of the National Finance Committee for Harris for President, has launched a new Bollywood-themed campaign song titled “Nacho Nacho” to mobilize nearly 5 million South Asian voters in key battleground states, including Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Georgia, Nevada, and Arizona. The initiative aims to rally voters behind Vice President Kamala Harris — the Democrat nominee — highlighting her as a beacon of hope for the future of Indian Americans and the broader South Asian community.
“Vice President Harris embodies the aspirations and future of millions of Indian Americans and immigrants,” Bhutoria stated. “Her leadership represents unity, progress, and a break from the divisiveness of Donald Trump’s past presidency. Through ‘Nacho Nacho’, we are using Bollywood’s universal appeal to unite and energize our community for this critical election.” Nacho Nacho follows the same beat as the Oscar winning song Naatu Naatu from the Indian film RRR.
The campaign is designed to galvanize the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities, emphasizing the pivotal role these voters play in shaping the 2024 election outcome. Bhutoria called on the community to rise to the occasion: “Now is the time to stand up and be counted. The AANHPI community has the power to make a difference, and we must unite to support Kamala Harris.”
Building on the success of Bollywood-based campaigns during the 2020 election, Bhutoria plans to produce additional music videos to further increase voter engagement and turnout for the Harris-Walz ticket. “In 2020, our campaign videos went viral, reaching millions of voters. This time, we’re doubling down to make sure every South Asian vote counts,” he added.
The “Nacho Nacho” video, produced by Ritesh Parikh of Awesome TV and featuring vocals by Bollywood singer Shibani Kashyap, incorporates messages in multiple South Asian languages, including Telugu, Tamil, Gujarati, Punjabi, Hindi, and Bangla, reflecting the rich cultural diversity of the community. Parikh noted, “Kamala Harris is a unifying figure, much like Bollywood, and her story resonates deeply with our community.”
As the election draws closer, Bhutoria and his team remain more committed than ever to energizing and mobilizing the South Asian electorate. “This election is about choosing between the future of hope and unity that Kamala Harris represents and the divisive past of Donald Trump. We are here to organize, mobilize, and win this election,” Bhutoria affirmed.
“Bollywood has always been about breaking barriers and telling stories that unite us. Kamala Harris embodies that same vision—bringing people together and championing a future where diversity is our greatest strength. Her journey is a story we all believe in,” said Ritesh Parikh, Founder of Awesome TV. “Join me, and let’s “Nacho Nacho” all the way to the polls! Let’s make history again in 2024!”
