Hindu group in Canada seeks action against pro-Khalistan hardliner Pannun

On behalf of the Indian community in Canada, a non-profit Hindu group has urged the Justin Trudeau government to take swift action against pro-Khalistan hardliner Gurpatwant Singh Pannun for threatening Indian diplomats and consulates in G7 nations. Pannun, legal counsel of outlawed Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) and a designated terrorist in India, issued fresh threats this week after Indians turned up in huge numbers for a rally at Mel Lastman Square in Toronto on Monday, condemning the Hamas attacks on Israel.

Khalistani leader Pannun threatens Indo-Canadian Hindus, asks them to leave

Stating that pro-Khalistan Sikhs have always been loyal to Canada, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, leader of radical Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), threatened Indo-Canadian Hindus and asked them to leave the country in a video which went viral on Wednesday. The emboldened dare from Pannun, legal counsel of SFJ, which is a banned terror outfit in India, comes after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused New Delhi of involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, resulting in tit-for-tat expulsions of senior diplomats.

White House officials meet Sikh activists before Biden-Modi meet

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emplaned for the U.S. for his three-day official visit to the country. Just hours before Modi’s arrival on September 21, officials from the White House have met a group of Sikh activists. As per reports, citing a community leader, the officers assured the Sikh group that the government is committed to protecting American citizens from any acts of transnational aggression on its soil.

The meeting, initiated by the White House, was held inside the complex on Thursday, September 19. It was attended by American Sikh Caucus Committee founder Pritpal Singh and representatives from the Sikh Coalition and Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund (SALDEF).

India condemns vandalism of Swaminarayan Temple in New York, raises issue with U.S.

The Indian Consulate in New York has condemned the vandalism of the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple, saying it has raised the matter with the U.S. law enforcement authorities for prompt action against perpetrators of the “heinous act”.

“The vandalism of the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in Melville, New York, is unacceptable,” the Indian Consulate said Monday, September 16, in a post on X.

Lawmakers, students, researchers, and community leaders came together at the 3rd National Hindu Advocacy Day to discuss the concerns of Hindus living in the US and the rising instances of hate crime. A US State Department spokesperson on Wednesday did not deny or confirm a news report that the proposed sale of MQ-9B SeaGuardian drones to India was being blocked by lawmakers but did say that officials “routinely consult” with members of the foreign relations committees of the US Congress and address any “questions” that they may have before they are formally notified in the final stage of the approval process.
