The BAPS Swaminarayan Research Institute the first such center for learning and research on Indian languages, Hindu scriptures, and Hindu philosophy has been set up in the United States at Robbinsville, New Jersey.
“There has been a growing interest among the members of the community to learn Sanskrit and gain a deeper understanding of Hindu scriptures,” said Mahamahopadhyay Pujya Bhadreshdas Swami, who presided over the event held on Saturday.
“Through its rigorous teaching of Sanskrit, Vedic and classical literature, as well as Hindu beliefs, values, and practices, the institute, will strive to foster social harmony, interfaith dialogue, public engagement, and academic discourse. It will generate opportunities for value-based education, innovative research, and creative expression,” he added.
The Mahamahopadhyay said the BAPS had always encouraged the youth to explore their interests in arts and Hindu philosophy and the New Jersey-based institute was a fulfillment of a long-cherished dream. He said the institute will take forward the spiritual leader’s vision of global harmony, public service and educational excellence.
The Mahant Swami Maharaj, the sixth and current spiritual successor of Bhagwan Swaminarayan, had joined the event from the main temple, Akshardham in India’s Ahmedabad through video-conference technology.
“Yogiji Maharaj (Bhagwan Swaminarayan) had envisioned such an institute and was passionate about youth learning and discoursing in Sanskrit. The research institute has fulfilled this vision. May students excel in their studies and work together to serve society, expanding the circle of unity across the world. In the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, meaning the world is one family; let’s reach out to extend the circle of global harmony,” the Mahant Swami Maharaj said.
Over 115 representatives from over 50 Hindu temples, organizations and other scholars attended the event.
