Sikh Coalition introduces fellows and additional free resources to bolster Get Out The Vote initiative

The Sikh Coalition has introduced additional free resources for sangat as part of its Get Out The Vote (GOTV) initiative that allows voters to check their state’s voter registration, early voting period, and information about how to vote by mail.

The GOTV Fellows have also curated additional information for sangat. In this spreadsheet, voters can find dates for each state’s deadlines for online voter registration, registration by mail, and in-person registration. Using this facility voters can also view the states’ in-person early voting periods, and whether or not they have voter ID requirements. “We will continue to update this information through November 5th if critical details change,” the Sikh Coalition has assured.

The Sikh Coalition launched the first-ever GOTV Fellowship Program in March 2024. This program is to help its young sangat members gain the tools and guidance to increase their civic power by encouraging members of local communities to vote in the upcoming 2024 elections. During the six-month program, fellows were given the opportunity to develop and implement strategies for voter engagement. In addition to speaking at gurdwaras to talk about voter registration, the fellows also carry out research and disseminate information about voting; attend monthly speaker series to learn from Sikh advocates across the country; and create individual projects to aid in voter education.

The Sikh Coalition is a non-profit and non-partisan organization. The outfit has clarified that all of its GOTV work is being done to support broader Sikh-American civic engagement, and not for the benefit of any candidate, elected official, or political party. The Sikh Coalition believes that it is critical for all Americans, regardless of their party affiliation or political preferences, to cast their ballots for federal elected officials, governor and other state-level positions, local-level officials, and ballot issues. “In the weeks leading up to November 5th, we will continue sharing information about how to get out the vote and prepare for Election Day.”

The nonprofit organization launched the 2024 GOTV Center earlier this year. The center is a free tool that assists voters to check their details and learn more about elections and election procedures in their area. The organization also introduced its six 2024 GOTV Fellows who will help the sangat members remain civically engaged. As part of their first tasks, all of the Fellows contributed to gathering voters’ information, and approached their respective gurdwaras to share resources about the 2024 GOTV Center initiative and about a new Punjabi language option that is available for a voter hotline borne out of a collaboration with Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote (APIAVote) and Asian American Advancing Justice – AAJC.
