A severely weakened economy, high corruption, endemic poverty and persistent unemployment are the main issues at play before the three main contenders, the incumbent President Ranil Wickramasinghe, Anura Kumara Dissanayake from the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) party and Sajith Premadasa of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) party.
