Senior Supreme Court Advocate Ashok Bhan received the National Law Day Award for his outstanding contribution to the field of Law and public services from Former CJI & Chairman NHRC Justice Dr. KG Balakrishnan at a felicitation function in New Delhi on 17 April.
Bhan received the National Law Day Award at the V.K. Krishna Menon Auditorium in New Delhi for his contributions to the field of law, Human Rights, and public services. Bhan is a practicing senior Advocate at the Supreme Court of India and has handled high-profile cases across the country. He worked in Jammu and Kashmir High Court and was one of the prominent advocates till 1988.
The award citation says Bhan was awarded “for successfully conducting the Bofors case as special counsel for CBI in various courts in Delhi and Supreme Court and for representing India at UNGA, UNHCR and many other international forums and for prolific writings in leading national dailies. A versatile lawyer, a crusader against terrorism, a human rights activist, and a bar leader.”
Bhan has represented the Country at UNGA and UNHRC and various other international forums. He is also a door tenant at a prestigious law chamber in London. His professional credence grew manifold in the 1990s when he successfully conducted the BOFORS case as special counsel for the CBI in various courts in Delhi and the Supreme Court.
Bhan has been handling high-profile cases and other arbitration matters. He is known for his expertise in white-collar criminal law, constitutional law, and arbitration. Bhan is also the chairman of Kashmir (Policy & Strategy) Group and has also represented cooperate houses and many civil matters and many arbitrations.
