For the first two decades of my life, daily popular entertainment meant the radio and the radio meant Ameen Sayani, who died today at age 91 in Mumbai of a heart attack. 

For the first two decades of my life, daily popular entertainment meant the radio and the radio meant Ameen Sayani. Even as an 11-year-old, when I first heard his iconic hit parade Binaca Geetmala, I knew that Sayani was a real human being in flesh and blood. However, the thought that he could just as well be radio waves strangely exhilarated me.

Ameen Sayani, India’s golden voice of radio, passes away at age 91

Ameen Sayani, the iconic radio personality, passed away at the age of 91 due to cardiac failure. He suffered a heart attack on Tuesday evening after which he rushed to HN Reliance Hospital in Mumbai. He reportedly suffered a heart attack on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. The doctors at the hospital tried to treat him but he was declared dead after the revival attempts didn’t yield a positive result.
