India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has urged Indian students enrolled in US colleges and universities to abide by local laws and regulations with regard to the ongoing protests that have swept across American institutions for higher education against Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza.
Police stormed Ivy League Columbia University, the ground zero of nationwide pro-Palestine protests, breaking up the occupation of a building by agitators and arresting scores of them.
Columbia University in New York has taken action to suspend student protesters who remained at the on-campus encampment past the administration’s 2 pm ET deadline, CNN reported. According to the university, these students will face consequences such as ineligibility to complete the semester or graduate, as well as restrictions from university housing and academic facilities.
An Indian American cancer physician, Kamal Menghrajani, is among 15 “exceptional young leaders” appointed to the 2023-2024 class of White House Fellows. Placed at the Office of Science and Technology Policy, Menghrajani, who treats patients with leukemia, will spend a year working with senior White House Staff, Cabinet Secretaries, and other top-ranking administration officials.
