Ravinder Bhalla, the first Indian American Sikh Mayor of Hoboken City in New Jersey, has announced his candidacy from the state’s 8th Congressional district. Bhalla will challenge Representative Rob Menendez Jr, son of Senator Bob Menendez who is facing facing federal corruption charges, in the Democratic primary next year.
Pro-Israel lobbyists in the US state of Oregon may oppose the candidacy of Indian American Susheela Jayapal from the state’s 3rd Congressional District, a media report said. The elder sister of Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, Susheela announced last month that she was looking to succeed Representative Earl Blumenauer from the District, which includes parts of Portland, and is a Democratic stronghold.
Niraj Antani, Ohio’s first Hindu and Indian American State Senator, announced his campaign for Congress from the state’s second congressional district. The 32-year-old Republican will be contesting the Republican primary in March next year for the seat currently held by Congressman Brad Wenstrup.
