Top US Defense and State Department officials co-chaired the seventh 2+2 Intersessional Dialog with their Indian counterparts here on September 26 and laid their emphasis on the transformative momentum in US-India ties and reiterated the need to uphold security in the Indo-Pacific region, the Pentagon said on Tuesday.
The US has said the Chinese spy balloon that was shot down over the Atlantic Ocean in early February didn’t collect intelligence as it flew over the US, ABC News reported. Pentagon press secretary Brigadier General Pat Ryder said that neither the balloon transmit the data back to China, nor did it collect any.
President Joe Biden has nominated General Charles Q. Brown, a former Indo-Pacific leader and advocate of close defense ties with India, to be the country’s top military officer. Biden is set to formally announce the nomination of Air Force head Brown as the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on Thursday, according to media reports quoting senior officials.
Indian American Ravi Chaudhary was confirmed by the US Senate as Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Energy, Installations, and the Environment by a bipartisan vote of 65-29.
The US Senate did not object to the proposed $450 million deal in connection with Pakistan’s F-16 fighter jet program, the State Department said. It said that the F-16 program was an important part of the broader Washington-Islamabad bilateral relationship.
