UPI transactions up by 41% to touch record $14.96bn in August: NPCI

The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) saw 41% growth (year-on-year) at record $14.96 billion transactions in the month of August, as total transaction amount touched Rs 20.61 lakh crore — a 31% YoY growth, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) data showed on Sunday.

The average daily transaction amount stood at $483 million last month, as average daily transaction amount reached Rs 66,475 crore.

Renowned Paris store okays India’s UPI

The flagship store of Galeries Lafayette on Haussmann Boulevard in Paris is now accepting India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payments. This landmark move is a step further in realizing India’s vision of globalizing UPI, which is an Indian instant payment system developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) in 2016.

“On July 3, 2024, the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) became live at the flagship store of the world-renowned Galeries Lafayette in Haussmann, Paris. This expands the acceptance of UPI in Paris after a successful launch at the iconic Eiffel Tower,” read a press release by Indian Embassy in France.
