Sridhar Vembu, CEO and Co-founder of cloud software major Zoho announced on Saturday, July 13, that the company has opened its first dedicated factory to assemble the Karuvi line of power tools. The factory located in Mathapuram village, Tenkasi district, Tamil Nadu, is close to Zoho’s office in Mathalamparai village.

Last month, Zoho invested an undisclosed amount in manufacturing startup Karuvi, aiming to create jobs in smaller towns and villages. Vembu shared on social media platform X that they have trained about 15 talented young people from surrounding villages to work in the factory, calling it “a small beginning for a big dream in rural manufacturing.”

Zoho has also invested in an aerospace startup called Yali Aerospace. These investments are part of the company’s ongoing efforts to build deep-tech expertise and manufacturing capabilities in India.

Vembu stated that Karuvi and Yali are startups innovating in their respective fields while creating jobs and bringing technical skill sets to smaller towns and villages.

Karuvi, a mechatronics startup, has launched 10 tools including drills, power saws, and angle grinders. The products are manufactured with approximately 95 percent locally sourced components. MSD Prasad, CEO of Karuvi, said they plan to expand their portfolio to at least 30 products by the end of 2025.
