Three Indian Americans to receive Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award

Three Indian American citizens are among the list of 27 individuals who will be awarded the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award during the upcoming Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention, India’s Ministry of External Affairs announced earlier this month.

The convention is scheduled to be held from 8 to 10 January 2025 at Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

The Indian-origin citizens who will be awarded are Dr. Sharad Lakhanpal, Dr. Sharmila Ford, and Ravi Kumar S.

Lakhanpal will be awarded in the field of Medicine.

Sharmila Ford, who is married to Alfred Ford, the great-grandson of Henry Ford, founder of the Ford Motor Company, will receive the award for Community Service.

Kumar will be getting it for shining in the field of Business (IT & Consulting).

The Awards will be conferred by India’s President Droupadi Murmu at the PBD Convention in the Valedictory Session of the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas celebrations.

As per an official news release, PBSA is conferred by the President of India as part of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention on Non-Resident Indians, Persons of Indian Origin or an organization/institution established and run by the Non-Resident Indians or Persons of Indian Origin in recognition of their outstanding achievements both in India and abroad.

“A Jury-cum-Awards Committee, with Hon’ble Vice-President as the Chairman and Hon’ble External Affairs Minister as the Vice-Chair and other distinguished members from various walks of life, considered the nominations for the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards, 2025 and unanimously selected the awardees. The awardees represent the excellence achieved by our diaspora in various fields,” it said.
