The success of TiEcon 2020, the annual entrepreneurship conference of TiE Silicon Valley, was evident when Indra Nooyi, former chairman & CEO of PepsiCo, congratulated the participants for putting up an amazing virtual podium and connecting to the world.
The two-day conference was attended by representatives from 61 chapters of TiE from 22 countries.
Kumar Sripadam, co-convenor, TiEcon 2020, said that the entrepreneurship journey which began with individuals from diverse technologies and geographies converged around an idea that brought great results.
“It becomes a reality when they create a product, solution, or service and subsequently elevate it to its fullest potential to deliver economic outcomes,” he added.
He congratulated the TiEcon staff and crew members, for putting up a “stellar line-up of speakers” and managing to create a fully virtual event during this pandemic.
Sripadam said that seeing the participation, which turned out a great success and the attendees from so many countries felt of tremendous value and knowledge which they took with them from each session.
“We certainly did not want to skip our flagship TiEcon event due to the pandemic, so continued this 27-year tradition as a series of virtual events,” said BJ Arun, president, TiE Silicon Valley. “This allowed our amazing speaker lineup to reach an even wider audience by expanding this premier Silicon Valley event globally.”
There were many sessions and speakers that would resonate with entrepreneurs at all levels.
Fred Luddy, co-Founder, ServiceNow, asked entrepreneurs to love the problems more than the solutions, because that was how one received what one loved.
Jeff Miller, president of business consulting company JAMM Ventures, introduced the Luddy, who was the grand speaker.
“The best way to succeed is to keep your clients happy. Because your business depends on them,” Luddy said.
“We all have challenges if life,” said Luddy, who was diagnosed with mild autism in his childhood.
As he realized his limitations, yet he continued to forge ahead and fell in love with programming. He left home at 16, worked his way up by doing odd jobs and started his own company when he was 50.
The most important tool for successful business, he said, was “how you react to any condition.”
Chirantan “CJ” Desai, chief product officer at ServiceNow, said one of the key goals of TiEcon 2020 was to inspire entrepreneurs to make the most during these stressful times, and help meet mentors and exchange ideas with the luminaries in their field.
The conference also featured a series of Bootcamps, VC (Venture Capitalist) Connect, and Mentor Connect sessions, creating a complete entrepreneurial ecosystem.
TiEcon 2020 hosted several tracks, fireside chats, and panels focused on trending topics, including AI/ML, Security, Diversity & Inclusion, Cloud, Fintech and Health-Tech, with TiE50 awards and TiE Youth programs. The TiE50 awards recognized the top technology and technology-enabled startups.
The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE), a not-for-profit organization, was founded in 1992, with a mission to foster entrepreneurship globally through the five pillars: mentoring, networking, education, funding, and incubation.
