Senior advocate Lalit Bhasin has been appointed as the national president of the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC). He is the 54th national president of IACC which was set up in October 1968 and has 14 offices all over India.
Bhasin said after taking charge: “I am privileged to lead the IACC at a time when the Indo-US partnership is poised to leapfrog in many areas and directions thanks to the direction and support being given by the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Joe Biden: IACC will draw strength from that rare bonding between our two countries to sharpen broad contours of engagements to take it to the next level.”
With a legal practice that is spread over six decades, Bhasin was associated with several of India’s apex business organizations like CII, PHD CCI. He also served as the chairman of the legal committees of these organizations.
Lalit Bhasin started his law practice in 1962 and has developed Bhasin & Co. as one of the largest law Firms in North India. He has donned the top mantel in several organizations. He has essayed the role of president of the Bar Association of India, president of the Society of Indian Law Firms, chairman of CIArb (Chartered Institute of Arbitrators), chairman of the India chapter of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry Committee on Americas, chairman of CII National Task Force on Legal Services, among a host of others.
He was awarded Honorary Membership of the IBA in Melbourne in 1994 for outstanding service to the legal profession. In 2007, the President of India presented the National Law Day Award to Bhasin for “Outstanding Contribution to the Development of the Legal Profession in India and for his deep involvement and engagement in the maintenance of the highest standards at the Bar”. He was awarded the Plaque of Honour by the Prime Minister of India in 2002 for outstanding contribution to the Rule of Law.

The IACC is the apex bilateral Chamber synergizing India-US Economic Engagement. It was started by Ambassador Chester Bowles along with the then industry leaders like Mr. S L Kirloskar, Mr. Harish Mahindra, Mr. H. P. Nanda, Mr. Ambalal Kilachand, Mr. A. M. M. Arunachalam, Mr. Frederick Fales and Mr. John Oris Sims for enhancing US India Economic Engagement. Today IACC has a pan India presence with around 1500+ members, representing a cross-section of US and Indian industries.
