U.S. President Donald Trump has appointed two Indian Americans as special assistants handling national security and personnel matters.
Ricky Gill will oversee South and Central Asian affairs at the National Security Council (NSC) as the senior director, focusing on relations with India.
Saurabh Sharma will join the Presidential Personnel office.
Gill previously served at the NSC in the first Trump administration as director for Russia and European Energy Security. He also held a senior advisor role at the State Department’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations. After his NSC tenure, Gill led Gill Capital Group as principal and general counsel. Additionally, he worked as an advisor on European and Asian energy at TC Energy, which owns the Keystone XL Pipeline, a project approved by Trump but later blocked by President Joe Biden.
Born in Lodi, New Jersey, to Jasbir and Param Gill, Ricky Gill earned a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and a law degree from the University of California, Berkeley. He confirmed his appointment via a LinkedIn post, which was reported by Politico.
Saurabh Sharma, born in Bengaluru, is the co-founder and president of American Moment, a conservative organization focused on educating and credentialing young Americans. A Republican activist, Sharma previously chaired the Young Conservatives of Texas and worked as a journalist with the conservative Daily Caller.
Sharma holds a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Texas. His appointment was confirmed by American Moment on its website and reported by Politico.
