indica News Service –

President Donald Trump has said that he is going to sign an executive order which will temporarily ban immigration in the United States.

Trump said:

“In light of the attack from the Invisible Enemy, as well as the need to protect the jobs of our GREAT American Citizens, I will be signing an Executive Order to temporarily suspend immigration into the United States!”

The US has the highest number of infection cases as well as the fatalities from COVID-19 global pandemic. A total number of 42,094 people have died of the infection in the country and more than 750,000 have been reported to be infected with COVID-19 as on 21st April.

The details of the executive order is awaited. Trump’s reasoning is protecting the jobs of Americans. There have been record layoffs due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the US. A record number of 22 million Americans have applied for the unemployment benefits.

Apart from the immigration visa, Trump is also likely to suspend the H-1B visa which is popular among the Indian IT professionals. Though there has been no confirmation but it is likely that Trump will also target the H-1B visa.

Due to the widespread pandemic, the US has already closed its northern and southern borders. Consulate services have been closed in many countries including India which is already making a big impact on the issue of H-1B visas.

Last month, the United States suspended all routine visa services around the world due to the global coronavirus pandemic.

As on 21st April, 2.4 million people have been infected with the virus globally and more than 165,000 killed.
