United States records more than 700 deaths from coronavirus in a single day

indica News Bureau-

The United States has recorded more than 700 deaths in a single day on Tuesday for the first time as the situation continues to become grim in the country. The government is racing to build new makeshift hospitals so that the strain on the overwhelmed healthcare system eases.

Half of these deaths in a single day have been recorded in New York state, which is the epicenter of the disease in the country.

The mayor of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has requested the Trump administration for reinforcement as he feared that the worst is yet to come.

He said:

“This is the point at which we must be prepared for next week when we expect a huge increase in the number of cases. What I asked very clearly, last week, was for military medical personnel to be deployed here.”

According to the mayor, an additional 1,000 nurses, 300 respiratory therapists and 150 doctors are required in the city by April 15th.

Now, more people have died because of coronavirus in the United States than the number of people who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

At the moment, the US has 184,000 positive cases of coronavirus, up 21,000 from the day before.

In a grim prediction, the White House medical experts had earlier said that  between 100,000 to 200,000 people may die in the coronavirus pandemic in the United States.
