Naveen Jindal, chairman of Jindal Steel and Power, was conferred with Lifetime Achievement Award by the University of Texas (Dallas). Jindal is the second person to receive the prestigious award after Nobel Laureate Aziz Sancar.
Jindal received the award in a ceremony held by the varsity on March 25, 2023. Other distinguished alumni and supporters were also honored at the 2023 UT Dallas Awards Gala. For only the second time in UT Dallas’ history, the University bestowed its Lifetime Achievement Award to an alumnus, recognizing the personal and philanthropic accomplishments of Jindal an alumnus of the university (1992 batch). Nobel Laureate Aziz Sancar was the first to receive the prestigious award from the university.
Six other individuals also received awards celebrating their outstanding professional achievements, community engagement, and service to UT Dallas. The Lifetime Achievement award is the highest honor that the university bestows on an alumnus. It recognizes a graduate whose extraordinary contributions have bettered society, transformed the university, and inspired others to reach new heights of excellence.
Jindal became one of UT Dallas’ premier benefactors after graduation. In 2011, he made a significant pledge to UT Dallas’ business school, creating endowed faculty positions, scholarships, fellowships, and the Naveen Jindal Institute for Indo-American Business Studies. At the time, Jindal’s gift was the largest ever made by a UT Dallas alumnus. The Naveen Jindal School of Management now bears his name in recognition of his impact.
Jindal, chairman of Jindal Steel and Power and founder and chancellor of O.P. Jindal Global University in Haryana, India, has served two terms as a member of parliament in India, representing his home district of Kurukshetra. As a student at UT Dallas, Jindal served as both Student Government vice president and president and earned the Student Leader of the Year Award.
He was recognized with the University’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2010. To celebrate the enormous success of their most distinguished alumnus, the university honored him by renaming their School of Management the Naveen Jindal School of Management in 2011.
