After USAID administrator Samantha Power visited India to advance the US-India Strategic Partnership and also to address the global food security crisis, another US delegation will be on a visit to India from August 30.
To further strengthen relations between India and US, senator Jon Ossoff will head a delegation to India. The eight-day visit, which will start on August 30, will look at means to upgrade mutually beneficial commercial, scientific and security partnerships between the two countries.
In a video message delivered on his Twitter handle to mark the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence, US Senator Ossoff said: “US-India relations are strong and getting stronger, as are relations between my state of Georgia and India. So let’s continue working together to deepen ties between our countries in commerce, research in science and technology, in culture and in our security.”
As per an official statement from his office, United States Senator Jon Ossoff from the State of Georgia announced that he will lead an eight-day economic delegation to India. The delegation will arrive in Mumbai on August 30 and depart New Delhi on September 6, 2022.
Senator Ossoff added that the delegation will also represent the Indian American community in Georgia, “where the growing Indian diaspora is a thriving and beloved part of our community.”
Born and raised in Atlanta, Ossoff is the senior US senator from Georgia. Before his election to the Senate, Jon led a team that exposed ISIS war crimes, atrocities committed by peacekeeping troops, human trafficking, fraud, theft, corruption, corporate abuse, and murder as the CEO of a 30-year-old company that produces investigations of official corruption, organized crime, and war crimes for international news organizations. He serves on the powerful Senate Judiciary, banking, housing, and urban affairs, Homeland Security and governmental affairs; and rules committees. He is also the Chair of the Homeland Security Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.
India-U.S. bilateral relations have developed into a “global strategic partnership”, based on shared democratic values and increasing convergence of interests on bilateral, regional and global issues. The emphasis placed by the government in India on development and good governance has created an opportunity to reinvigorate bilateral ties and enhance cooperation. After the first two summits between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Barack Obama in September 2014 and January 2015 a joint statement was issued called the India-US relationship an “Enduring Global Partners in the 21st Century”.
“Regular exchange of high-level political visits has provided sustained the momentum to bilateral cooperation, while the wide-ranging and ever-expanding dialogue architecture has established a long-term framework for India-US engagement,” said a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs.
Today, the India-US bilateral cooperation is broad-based and multi-sectoral, covering trade and investment, defense and security, education, science and technology, cyber security, high-technology, civil nuclear energy, space technology and applications, clean energy, environment, agriculture and health. Vibrant people-to-people interaction and support across the political spectrum in both countries nurture our bilateral relationship.
