With US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump’s visit to India scheduled on February 24 and 25, the US diplomats insist that the ties between the two countries are “unshakable” and will be strengthened further by the visit. The US President will meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will also pay a visit to Ahmadabad for a ‘Howdy Modi!’ like event, tiled ‘Namaste Donald Trump’. The event was earlier referred to as ‘Kem Cho Trump’.

In a string of tweets on February , US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary (PDAS), Alice Wells through the handle of Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, noted that close Indo-US partnership is evident in fields like education. Wells also said that India plays an increasingly important role in the Indo-Pacific region and the US will partner with India at every step of the way, reported Republic World.

State_SCA tweeted, ” The U.S. and #India enjoy a close partnership that grows stronger day by day. Together, we are breaking records. For example: we welcomed a record number of Indian exchange students to the US last year and hope to receive even more this year.”

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), President Trump is expected to attend an event at the Motera Stadium in Ahmadabad similar to the ‘Howdy Modi!’ function that was addressed by Trump and Modi in Houston in September 2019.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), President Trump is is expected to start his two-day visit in Ahmadabad, where he will take part in a grand road-show, visit the Sabarmati Ashram and inaugurate the newly built Motera cricket stadium with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.  The 22-km-long road show being organised on the lines of ‘Howdy Modi!’, that was attended by PM Modi in Houston in September 2019 was earlier named as ‘Kem Cho Trump’, but was recently re-christened as ‘Nameste Donald Trump’. Ahmadabad Municipal Corporation on Sunday tweeted a series of ‘Namaste Trump’ posters to announce the US President’s 24 Feb visit, reported Live Mint.

While it was earlier speculated that the program would be called ‘Kem Chho Trump’, a Gujarati expression, the AMC posters confirmed it was now christened as ‘Namaste Trump’, apparently to give it a pan-India appeal.

“World’s oldest democracy meets world’s largest democracy,” said one of the posters which had images of PM Modi and President Trump with ‘Namaste Trump’ displayed prominently

The US President is also scheduled to visit the Taj Mahal along with Melania Trump. He will hold talks with the Indian leadership on a host of issues ranging from trade to defense deals to regional security.
