The U.S.-India Business Council has appointed Nisha Biswal, President Emerita, to the USIBC Global Board of Directors.
She was awarded the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award, the highest honor conferred by the President of India to overseas Indians for their contributions to strengthening India’s global engagement, in 2017.
Born in India, Biswal immigrated to the United States with her family as a child. While serving on the U.S. Institute of Peace International Advisory Council and the Aspen Institute’s India-U.S. Track 2 Dialogue on Climate and Energy she participated in policy dialogues on U.S.-India relations. She played key roles in U.S. foreign policy and international economic development in USIBC from 2017 to 2021.
Excelerate Energy, Inc., LNG company located in The Woodlands, Texas, appointed Biswal to its Board of Directors (Board), effective January 21, 2025. Biswal has over 30 years of experience in U.S. foreign policy and international economic development and trade programs, including U.S. government agencies, Congress, and the private sector. Till recently, she served as the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the U.S. International Development Financial Corporation (DFC), overseeing the operations and strategy for a $60 billion government corporation financing private-sector-led global projects in energy, infrastructure, health, agriculture, and financial inclusion.
Previously, Biswal has served as U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs and Assistant Administrator for Asia at the U.S. Agency for International Development as well as on various Congressional Committee staff. Prior to joining DFC, Ms. Biswal was senior vice president for international strategy and global initiatives at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and led the U.S. India Business Council and the U.S. Bangladesh Business Council.
USIBC President Ambassador (ret.) Atul Keshap said, “Nisha Biswal joins our Global Board as President Emerita, bringing her deep commitment to innovative financial strategies and transformative development initiatives.”
Sharing her thoughts on the appointment, Nisha said, “I am honored to rejoin the USIBC family as President Emerita on the Global Board of Directors. Over the past 50 years, USIBC has played a key role in supporting US-India trade and investment, ushering in opportunities to benefit opportunity and prosperity in both countries. There is no economic partnership that is more important for the American private sector and the American people. I am proud to be part of the important mission of USIBC.”
