Tesla officially marked its entry into the Indian market on Tuesday, July 15, with the inauguration of its first showroom, known as the Experience Centre, at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai.
The event was attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who welcomed the U.S.-based electric vehicle manufacturer, stating that India is now a strong and growing market for electric mobility.
The chief minister emphasized Mumbai’s role as a hub for innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability, describing the city as the ideal location for Tesla’s debut in India.
He noted that his first experience with a Tesla vehicle was in the United States in 2015, and expressed satisfaction that the brand has now entered the Indian market.
Tesla’s presence in India includes four commercial properties, such as an engineering hub in Pune, a registered office in Bengaluru, and a temporary office in Mumbai.

The company has also leased a 24,500-square-foot space in Kurla West to establish a service center, which is located close to its new showroom. The lease agreement, signed with Bellissimo in City FC Mumbai I Private, spans five years and includes a monthly rent of Rs 37.53 lakh.
Tesla will pay nearly Rs 25 crore over the duration of the lease, along with a security deposit of Rs 2.25 crore, according to official documents.
Maharashtra’s government reiterated its support for the electric vehicle industry, highlighting existing policies that promote EV manufacturing and the development of charging infrastructure.
The chief minister expressed hope that Tesla would eventually consider locating its research, development, and manufacturing operations in India.
