When it was announced that the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will raise the issue of human rights during his two-day trip to India, it did not go well with the Indian government.
On Sunday, July 25, India pushed back against the comment and said it is proud of its achievements both in human rights and in democracy.
Proposing to “share its experiences” on human rights issues, the government said such issues were universal and extended beyond “a particular national or cultural perspective”.
Sources said India will raise issues such as the implication of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, the need for sustained pressure on Pakistan to stop terror financing, and the resumption of international air travel. Further, India is likely to seek “open and consistent” supply chain for materials and items required for the production of Covid-19 vaccines.
On Sunday, Blinken said he is looking to take forward the conversation with India on numerous issues, be it bilateral, regional, addressing Covid-19, or global developments.
India and the US are expected to explore ways and means to deepen their collaboration in defense as well as the global Covid-19 developments when Blinken will arrive in India on Wednesday for a two-day visit.
Sources also said, “India and US are expected to explore ways and means to deepen their collaboration in defense. It’ll cover policy exchanges, exercises and defense transfers and technologies. These will be covered in greater detail during the fourth 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue due in the US this year.”
